How was this measured?

The Showfolk library collects static image ads that brands are running publicly on Meta. Every ad is reviewed by a person before it is included. Each is then tagged for layout, hook, text density, whether it shows a person or the product, and aspect ratio, using an AI model whose tags are open to correction by a reviewer. The figures above are simple counts and shares over those tags. Percentages are rounded to one decimal place.

What are the limits of this data?

  • It is a curated sample of major brands, not a census of Meta advertising. Brands were chosen because they are established advertisers, which skews the sample toward larger budgets.
  • The ads were running when collected. That a brand chose to run an ad is a signal, but this data contains no performance figures and cannot say which ads performed best.
  • Static images only. Video, carousels and animated ads are not included.
  • Tags are assigned by a model and some will be wrong. The “other” rows hold ads that fit no category.
  • The sample is recent and still growing, so shares will move as it fills in.
