Meta static ad sizes and safe zones (2026)

By Spencer Tribe · Last updated

Three sizes cover almost every Facebook and Instagram image placement: 1080×1080 (1:1) for feeds, 1080×1350 (4:5) for a taller feed ad, and 1080×1920 (9:16) for Stories and Reels. In the Showfolk library, 54.1% of static ads from major brands are 9:16, 24.8% are 1:1 and 16.5% are 4:5.

Where are the safe zones on a 9:16 ad?

On Stories and Reels the app draws its own interface over your ad: the profile name at the top and the call to action, caption and buttons at the bottom. Meta’s guidance is to keep text and logos out of roughly the top 14% of the frame, and out of the bottom 20% for Stories or the bottom 35% for Reels. On a 1080×1920 image that means keeping the important content between about 270 pixels from the top and 670 pixels from the bottom if one file has to serve both.

Stories and Reels
9:16 · 1080 × 1920

Make each version in both shapes. On the tall one, the app draws the account name over the top and the caption and buttons over the bottom, so keep words and the logo in the middle. On Reels, keep the bottom 35% clear.

Vertical leads because Stories and Reels fill the whole screen. If you can only make one size, make 9:16 with the safe zones respected, then crop a 4:5 or 1:1 from the middle.

Do I need every size for every ad?

No. Meta will fit one image to every placement, but it crops or pads to do so, and a padded square in a Story looks like an afterthought. Two files, a 1:1 or 4:5 for feeds and a 9:16 for Stories and Reels, cover nearly all delivery. Showfolk exports all three sizes at no extra cost.
